Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

Oh Katrina...\r\nA storm which we feared\r\nYou came to us and conquered\r\nYour fury was magnificent\r\nBut your scorn left us deficient\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nYou filled the bowl up\r\nLeft us no grub to sup\r\nDevastated many lives,\r\nHusbands, children and wives\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nTook away our home\r\nOn the streets the orphans roam\r\nYou filled my streets with water\r\nPoor grew thin and rich fatter\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nTheir land they had to leave\r\nBut you taught us how to give\r\nYou left us humans warned\r\nResults of nature scorned\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nLeft Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama bereft\r\nIn a retribution so swift\r\nYour violent fury made me see\r\nHow much more powerful nature is than me\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nAt 7, at a scale of 5, you hit land\r\nFilled my home with sea and sand\r\nI have no school and no home\r\nI am now living in a leaky dome\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nI know nature commands, u serve\r\nBut this devastation did I deserve\r\nOur elders told us this was a test\r\nBut was it survival of the fittest\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nYou who our land sullies\r\nLeaving hoards of displaced families\r\nThere is no water to drink,\r\nThough my town is filled with it to the brink\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nThere is debris everywhere\r\nMy life is a muddy layer\r\nMy neighbor, at you she raves\r\nHer family in watery graves\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nDon\'t you worry for me\r\nFor I will survive you latest spree\r\nI have help and now will rebuild\r\nFor with kindness my people are filled\r\n\r\nOh Katrina...\r\nI don\'t want you or your siblings back\r\nFor all left of my life is a sack\r\nYou tried to shake our core\r\nBut we are survivors...and you are not welcome here anymore
