Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

Oh Lord, help me so\r\nMy daughter cried in the contra flow\r\n\r\nShe\'s in her SUV\r\nShe\'s right there in front of me\r\n\r\nWe all drove in harmony\r\nAs we left from Metarie\r\n\r\nThe red necks laughed at us as we\r\nDrove through their land on to Tennessee\r\n\r\nWe tried to run -- we had to go\r\nAway from I-10, and below\r\n\r\nOh Lord, help me so\r\nMy daughter cried in the contra flow\r\n\r\nIt turned out real bad, you know\r\nBack to our homes, we could not go\r\n\r\nThat old storm did us in\r\nFelt like the world would end\r\n\r\nNow we think that we will go\r\nFar and away from the Gulf of Mexico\r\n\r\nClose my eyes and all I see\r\nIs my daughter right in front of me\r\n\r\nDriving on to Tennessee
