I am a highly trained and experienced legal professional, a paralegal/legal secretary/legal assistant, in Jackson, MS, 160 miles north of the Gulf Coast. A few weeks after my 63rd birthday, I was downsized from the large law firm where I had been employed for 14 years. They are moving from the downtown area and building a big new building. Thanks to the flood on our Jackson job market because of the evacuees of Hurricane Katrina, there are no legal jobs available for my age group. The few that have openings want someone young who will work for a lot less money than I have been used to. I am too young to retire on my full social security, but unable to find work.
