The day before hurricane Katrina my family and I evacuated to Houston Texas. My grandparents came with us and my grandmother was very concerned about her last living sibling. It was my grandmothers older sister. She was 98 years old and her name was Helen Pardue Jordan. Aunt Helen lived on Franklin Ave. directly across from the old boys home. She had told my grandmother that her church was picking her up to evacuate. my grandmother desperatly searched for her after the storm. My dad even took a boat to her house two weeks after the storm to find it still under water up to the roof. Three or maybe four months later fema retrieved a body from the house on franklin ave. and they contacted my grandmother. It wasnt until April 2006 that they confirmed the body was Aunt Helen. She was burried on may 1 2006 in hope moseleum on canal street. The moseleum was still damaged from katrina and her casket had to be carried up two flights of stairs. The house in the picture is the house she died in during Hurricane Katrina. The picture was taken today, September 2, 2009.
