When hurricane Katrina hit I was a sophomore at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. Having been born and raised in New Orleans, I did not consider hurricanes to be a big deal. For me hurricanes just meant that school was out. Before the storm hit, me and my friends from New Orleans just stayed at school and partied. After all it was only a hurricane. Needless to say the party ended when we realized that New Orleans was under water. I could not believe that my house in New Orleans East was flooded with 4ft of water. Even though the storm was devastating I was very fortunate... I only lost material things.
