My father built this house at 7510 Sheffield St. in New Orleans East right before I was born in 1982. Though my own rental home in Lakeview got 9 1/2 feet of water and I lost all my belongings, somehow this hit "home" much harder. We had sold the home many years before Katrina but when I visited it in 2011 this is hardly what I expected.
Some parts of New Orleans East still resemble a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of these large destroyed boxes of memories people once called home.
