I am a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indiana Army National Guard. My unit was sent to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. We sent troops to various locations to hand out food and water and be a security presence. I am an RN. Some of us stayed back at Camp Shelby and set up a clinic to take care of injured and sick soldiers who were part of the support troops.

I went to Gulfport one day to survey the damage. It was very sad to see so much destruction and so many people displaced. I am thankful that although I did not do the type of work I was prepared to do, I was able to be a part of something much bigger than myself. I was honored to be able to go and help members of my human family start to rebuild their lives
