A long line of vehicles, including trucks towing trailers, stretches down a two-lane road bordered by dense trees, with several people standing near their cars during a traffic stop.

People stretched along the long road out of town as thousands of people evacuated Southeast Texas along the routes we were forced to take north and east of the Beaumont-Port Arthur area. Many people walked their dogs, or themselves, while the traffic stopped, which was frequent.

This photo is from the Big Thicket National Preserve with no services near, such as restrooms, gas stations, convenient stores, or restaurants. The wooded edges of the road served as public bathrooms because we had no other choice.
