I am a stroke victim, I can not drive. I walk only with a walker. 40 or so people in our assisted Living complex were abandoned by the Apartment management. I endured Hurricane Rita and survived in an apartment with a badly damaged roof, no electricity, or running water.

It took two days of threatening by my friends in New York to inspire the Beaumont Fire Dept. to evacuate us. All the Apartments residents were loaded in a bus and taken to an abandoned Levi Strauss factory in San Antonio. I arrived in San Antonio more dead than alive. I was suffering from another stroke. My wallet was stolen while I was in San Antonio.

On the Wednesday after the hurricane I was transfered via another bus to Waco Texas.....By the time I arrived there, I was in congestive heart failure and kidney failure.

National Guard Doctors sent me via ambulance to Providence Hospital. After 5 days in the hospital, I was sent to Ridgecrest Nursing home in Waco.

There, the Social Worker (Beverly McCully) With the help of my friends in New York finished getting me healthy enough to travel to Troy, NY via plane and wheelchair.

I spent 11 days in the Nursing home.

I lost everything in Beaumont, my furniture, my books, my clothes my TV my computer.

Thanks to the generosity of a US Navy friend and his wife I have a new apartment.. and new furnishings....I had not seen Joe in 40 years. Before he showed up to take me to New York.

The Waco Tribune, The Troy Record, and ABC TV News have carried full accounts of my story....

I am a 6th Generation Texan and I was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas,

My Church friends in Beaumont, Reformed Presbyterian Church, 4210 Crow Rd. Rev. Mark Gibson helped salvage some clothes, but 90% of my possessions and al of my belongings were lost, stolen, or looted by the good people of Beaumont.

I will not return to Texas.....
