Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

I wonder where the love has gone\r\nAnd is there any left\r\nI wonder where the laughter went\r\nIt haunts my every breath\r\n\r\nI wonder where the children are\r\nTheir toys are strewn about\r\nI wonder where the confidence is\r\nFor my heart is filled with doubt\r\n\r\nI can\'t begin to express to you\r\nThe deepening pain inside my heart\r\nFor we\'ve grown so selfish, we\'re so undeserving\r\nOf the love that God imparts\r\n\r\nI wonder where we\'ll be one day\r\nWhen the gold comes to an end\r\nWhen the water recedes but mankind still bleeds\r\nWill the \"Saints Go Marching In\"?\r\n\r\nI wonder about the elderly\r\nLeft alone to die\r\nAnd why those supposed to care for them\r\nDeny all blame and now cry out, \"Why?\"\r\n\r\nI wonder all these things\r\nAnd I wonder about myself\r\nI wonder what I can do to help\r\nOr am I no different than anyone else\r\n\r\nI wonder where the flowers are\r\nThere\'s too much water for them to bloom\r\nThe birds aren\'t singing, the silence is ringing\r\nAnd it\'s the sound of impending doom\r\n\r\nI wonder what we\'ll do\r\nNow that our mortality we\'re forced to face\r\nWill we grow and change and stop acting deranged\r\nOr will we spiral into chaotic disgrace\r\n\r\nI wonder if you\'re wondering too\r\n\"Will we be blessed with more joyous scenes?\"\r\nOr will every picture bring back to memory\r\nThe tragedy of New Orleans . . .\r\n\r\nI Wonder
