On the evening of August 28, 2005, my friends and I all planned to attend the high school jamboree as we did every year. That year the jamboree was a part of my birthday plan for the weekend (my birthday was the following day, August 29).I remember my mom telling me there was an emergency evacuation so I had to forfeit my tickets. Although I was bummed about the game, I decided to celebrate my birthday the following weekend with my friends...or so I thought. My mom, great aunt, and I evacuated to Baton Rouge to stay with my sister in her apartment that shared with another roommate. As usual we thought we would return home within a few days, but a few days turned into a few months. Katrina brought on so much of depression to me during that year. I was forced to attend another school, be separated from my family, and lose my best friend, my dog. Hurricane Katrina was definitely not the birthday gift I was expecting.
