I can remember exactly how my fourteenth birthday played out on August 25, 2005. I remember celebrating it with the person I call my bestfriend, who is more like a sister since I am a only child. As Katrina grew closeer to the gulf region our immature minds thought everything was going to be ok, since nothing major had happened to our city before during hurricane season. As Aug. 29,2005 grew closer I remember asking my friend to come with us to Lake Providence,La,the place we evacuated to, but she insisted on staying with her family in New Orleans as Katrina moved closer to our city. At those final moments I remember saying by to my friend, her reassurring me that everything would be ok and we would be back home in 3 or 4 days. We parted ways not knowing what Katrina had in store for us and the entire city of New Orleans. On Aug.29,2005 we all witnessed Hurricane Katrina\'s destruction of our beloved city. I remember the news saying that certain areas of the city were alright and everything would be okay, until the leevees breached. As I watch on t.v. the water rising the only thought that came across my mind was my bestfriend.I was devastated!I hadn\'t heard from her in days and the phone lines were down. I prayed to God that please watch over my bestfriend and her family doing all of that.About a week passed and I received a strang text message from my friend asking me to send help and call someone that had a boat. That was the last message I received from her until they were rescued and brought to Texas. God answered my prayers and watched over my bestfriend and her family doing that difficult time. And today I can proudly say Tirrany James and I are still the best of friends. Our friendship survived Hurricane Katrina and her destruction. Not many people can say they had that outcome.
