Hello my name is Douglas Gillette I am a student at George Mason University. At my high school in New Jersey as Vice President of the Music Honors Society we hosted a benefit concert to help the victims of Hurricane Rita and Katrina. We collected over one thousand dollars and many material items like toys and clothe. The material donations were shipped to the gulf coast via the Red Cross. The money was given to Habitat for Humanity to aid in the rebuilding of the homes damaged from the hurricanes. Not only did we help out with the hurricane relief but we also expanded our music knowledge because the concert was strictly jazz. The concert was Jazz to reflect New Orleans, the origin of jazz music, which was destroyed. Being from northern New Jersey and have not even been to the gulf coast I am glad we were able to help out even if we only made a small difference.
