There is only 1 thing people are talking about today on campus. The flavor of the conversation will take different turns - but we\'re all talking about the same thing.\r\n\r\nI started my morning by talking to a colleague who has been on the scene with the Fish & Wildlife guys driving around in boats & helicopters rescuing people in New Orleans. He says that riding over the scene is enough to rip one\'s heart straight out of the chest. He can see the fumes from the standing water seething into the air. It is no wonder that the news reports some police officers are starting to get an acid burn-looking rash from exposure to the water.\r\n\r\nWe talked about the police force - since he has been so intertwined with the NOLA police for the past week. They feel deserted because many of their brothers have left them & they feel the media has portrayed them in such a negative light. \r\n\r\nWhen the conversation turned to the looting, he said it was just a tiny minority of thugs & that no one was seeing the \"all the good\" coming out of this. I later had lunch with a colleague who sadly lost nearly all of her worldly possessions & she said the same thing: a small group of thugs was soiling the nation\'s perception of the city. \r\n\r\nThe media is already diversifying its coverage so Josh & I will have to work even harder to keep America\'s eyes focused on this tragedy until it has truly ended.
