The day before Hurricane Katrina hit, everyone in my family that lived here came over to my house to watch Katrina closing in on us. My dad wasn\'t going to leave, but when Mom pleaded telling about the electrical difficulties that would happen to us and my little baby brother, and Dad changed his mind and we were packing to go to Baton Rouge. \r\n\r\nNo one else knew where to go on such short notice, so they also followed my dad on our trip through traffic escaping the hurricane\'s grasp. We got lost and during the time we were traveling over Lake Ponchatrain, my imagination overcame me and I could almost hear the twirling sound of the hurricane through the car window. Then there\'s when I got scared and paid close attention to the radio for the Katrina broadcast. \r\n\r\nWhen we got off of the bridge, I let my breath loose. I was much more relaxed. After that, We only got into little traffic. Only having to wait four or five minutes in the traffics, we eventually got to my aunt and uncle\'s house to find everyone waiting there for us. \r\n\r\nThere we came and unpacked. Since there were only four rooms in the house, people were sleeping in the living room and the piano room, everywhere! There were at least two families sharing the bedrooms, so the house was stuffed. It was alot of fun though. Everyone had great ideas of games and since it was kind of stuffy, it was fun playing hide-and-seek!\r\n\r\nDuring the hurricane, the little ones around thirteen and down (including me), went outside to watch all of the clouds darkening and the trees flopping down and flying. We stood in the back porch and to watch the rain soak the grass. Dark, swamping water was flying with the rain, and before we know it, the electricity went out.\r\n\r\nMy cousin Tori, who lived in the house, had friends who lived around the neighborhood and some of us went over there to sleep over. Some of my family started to drive to Houston, Texas to get to the airport to go to California. They were headed off to my godmom\'s home to stay with. Then my cousins started to go to school, and I kind of got lonely staying home. Then one day, my dad got the same push, and well let\'s say the push was strong enough to get US to Houston.\r\n\r\nWe stayed there for just a couple of days partly because my dad hadn\'t gone to Texas for a decade or two, and we got LOST! We eventually found our way and got back to Tori\'s house. We then stayed there for about another week, then we were on our way home. \r\n\r\nWe wanted to see if our electricity was working, and if not we would be back in Baton Rouge. You should have seen our joy when we realized that nothing terrible had happened to our house. Just a few minor situations. Like some of our roof fell to our front porch and our fence was completely knocked down. In addition to our ruined carpet. Other then that everything was in the exact position it was before we left, except for there was no food in our refridgerator. \r\n\r\nAfter Katrina, we started to rebuild like everyone else who was hoping to make their living here possible. Dad did most of that. He hired a crew to fix the entire roof, he got nails and wood and rebuilt the fence BETTER than new, and he hired someone to get our carpet to turn from bad to just got it out the store. It was outstanding to see our house so renewed. Most people in my family are finished renewing their home, but some are still trying to make things better.
