Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

In this land of plenty -\r\nI have nothing and the days go by\r\nWater all around us\r\nAnd there is no clean drop for us to drink\r\n\r\nI used to bring fine ladies water -\r\nIn between scrubbing their floors and raising their babies\r\nThe rich ones from up on St Charles Avenue\r\nIn those white pillared mansions\r\nI wonder how they are tonight\r\n\r\nWe see the helicopters flying all around\r\nBut we have not been released\r\nNothing has been given us to restore our peace\r\n\r\nI will myself to live\r\nFor my baby\'s dying in my arms\r\nAnd I look for stars to wish upon\r\nIn this black blue New Orleans sky\r\nTo keep my mind off of why\r\n\r\n...we have not a drop to drink.
