Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

For a while I thought that media circus should close tents\r\nAnd take it all down\r\nThey were treacherous and treading on sacred ground\r\n\r\nMy righteous anger flared\r\nTears appeared\r\nI was sickened and wishing they would just\r\nPut that camera down\r\n\r\nStop showing me these images and sounds which abound\r\nRevealing the hypocrisy of the factors before the disasters\r\nDon\'t let\r\nThe slow...sad...pan\r\nOf somebody\' damn reality-cam\r\nMake me examine my standing on the days before the tomorrows\r\nJust leave me\r\nTo my sorrows\r\nOf the days after\r\n\r\nYes, put that camera down, you must\r\nDo not let us discuss our disgust in the spin being spun\r\nFrom among the wicked web some have strung in their mixtures of pictures\r\nNor shall we speak on the fulfillment of the 66 books of scriptures\r\n\r\nThere\'s too much truth to be seen\r\nToo much proof to be screened\r\nSo put that damn camera down\r\nAnd let all sleuths be loosed from the scene\r\nWe really don\'t want to know what it all means\r\n\r\nLet us slide our sins back under the carpet\r\nWe don\'t need nor want to know when this all started\r\nOr how its all going end\r\nNot when so many of our family and friends are recently departed\r\nCan\'t you see we\'re broken-hearted?\r\nPut that camera down\r\nPlease\r\nDon\'t let these etched echoes of N\'awlins blues\r\nBe used to confuse the issues and tragedies we\'ve grown to know so well\r\nThat racism, oppression, class-ism and poverty are killing us daily\r\nAnd it seems\r\nWe\'ve already gone to hell\r\nWitnesses are always the last to know\r\nAlways the last to go or the first to be sacrificed and die so\r\nI shall no longer subscribe to what you provide in this sly genocide slideshow\r\n\r\nPut those cameras down\r\nI don\'t need to see his story through your minion of eyes\r\nOr through your legion of lies like some lord of the flies\r\nMy Lord is certainly willing.\r\nAnd Yes, Jesus is Able\r\nAnd any kind of Cain you may raise\r\n\r\nOr Pilots you may praise can\'t kill him\r\nAny Job you take won\'t shake his foundation of faith\r\nAnd if there were but one righteous soul in the whole doomed Lot\r\nIt would be his face above all others\r\nPaint him my Savior, my Maker, my Brother\r\n\r\nMy Father, King and Caretaker\r\nThe Shepherd who leads mine blind eyes to see\r\nBeyond the tainted images you would keep sending unto me\r\n\r\nSo put that damn camera down
