Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

(Note from the author: \"Many Americans have done extraordinary things to help the victims of Katrina. Katrina may have knocked us down, but she won\'t keep us down. Americans from all across the country have been deeply affected by this tragedy. I am proud of every American for their help and support. Please share this poem with family and friends.\")\r\n\r\nKatrina brought disaster\r\nShe caused a lot of grief\r\nShe showed the world destruction\r\nAnd pain beyond belief\r\n\r\nKatrina split up families\r\nShe knocked their houses down\r\nShe took all their possessions\r\nAnd pulverized their town\r\n\r\nSome women lost their husbands\r\nSome husbands lost their wives\r\nSome people lost their neighbors\r\nSome children lost their lives\r\n\r\nKatrina\'s winds were massive\r\nThey took some heavy tolls\r\nShe may have caused catastrophe\r\nBut deeply touched our souls\r\n\r\nShe brought us all together\r\nUnited, here we stand!\r\nOur people heard a cry for help\r\nAnd lent a helping hand\r\n\r\nWe reassured the victims\r\nThat help was on the way\r\nWe\'re doing all that we can do\r\nTo brighten up your day\r\n\r\nKatrina may have knocked you down\r\nBut we will pick you up\r\nShe may have taken all your food\r\nBut we will fill your cup\r\n\r\nYou know you can rely on us\r\nWe\'ll be your shining sun\r\nWe Are One Nation Under God\r\nUnited We Are One!\r\n
