Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

\"Crises always reveal a person\'s true character.\"\r\n\r\nI went back home to New Orleans recently\r\nto visit my parents and friends\r\n\r\nI remember talking to my friends\r\nand we were discussing\r\nwhat our new plans were in the future\r\n\r\nAs I think about it\r\nwe are all blessed\r\nwith new ventures ahead of us\r\ndespite the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina\r\n\r\nOne friend I ran into\r\nis now pursuing photography\r\n\r\nAnother friend received a promotion\r\nand moved into a another town\r\n\r\nAnd a another friend dedicated herself\r\nto working with children\r\n\r\nI am pursing my art, jewelry\r\nand continuing my film work\r\n\r\nGod has a way of telling us\r\nthat we need to peal off the old layers\r\nand see who we really are\r\nand embrace what we are made to do\r\nas God\'s children\r\n\r\nGod has our destinies written out\r\nand sometimes, tragedies have a way\r\nof making those destinies come true\r\n\r\nSo embrace who you really are\r\nbe true to yourself\r\nand spread your talents among others\r\nas Jesus did\r\n
