I was medically unfit to travel prior to the storm and could not take the long ride out of town. We secured the outside items and house, rode out the storm. I nor my sister, had ever been in a hurricane before and my boyfriend comforted us. I was scared out of my wits, we survived and evacuated 2-3 days later by a neighbors boat, walked the interstate towards the Superdome. Slept on the interstate for 3 days, in the blistering heat and at one point, I felt my life slipping away. I kept walking and dousing myself with water from head to toe. Finally, we were airlifted by a helicopter to the New Orelans airport, we hired a cab to LaPlace and stayed with friends for approximately 1 week, waiting on a rental car. Then we drove to Grand Prairie, Texas and remained there for 11 months. I have returned to New Orleans, 2 herniated discs, lost my job of over 19 years due to my illness and trying to rebuild my life like everyone else. It saddens me to see and hear how the citizens of New Orleans are still struggling 2 years later, myself included. New Orleans is a great city and my family keeps telling me to \"keep the faith\".
