I really think it was interesting to see how perspective makes a difference in covering the news. As a Califorian going to college in New Orleans, I had had some experience with the life and culture of New Orleans. During the media coverage, you could tell who had been to NO and who had not. This was especially apparent when I came back to my home in LA. I remember reading in my local newspaper a letter to the editor recommending that NOLA should be torn down and rebuilt. Experience makes all the difference in these type of situations, espcially in dealing with a city that one had not presumably been to. One would not make such a statement if they have been to or lived in new orleans and know how great and unique a city it is. The coverage in general ran as I expected it to: frenzied in the beginning and tapering off as the months passed, as is normal for most big stories. After a while the covergae did not botrher me much.
