Hurricane Katrina as we know has been one of the worst natural disasters to hit the costal region of the United States, but the most devastating to hit New Orleans. \r\nI was born and raised in New Orleans, the city where dreams are made of. Maybe it\'s the Southern Hospitality or just the humid weather, but growing up here has given me a sense of pride to calling it my home. You could go outside and everyone would be sitting on their porch drinking their glass of lemonade. Good old times is what I like to remember about my city. When Katrina hit, it was like losing my best friend. \r\nAugust 29, 2005 was the day this heartbreaking hurricane made landfall in New Orleans. I was in the tenth grade and I lived on the Westbank. What I remember most about evacuating was how most people thought about riding the storm out, but my family did not want to take that chance so we evacuated to Houston that Saturday. \r\nWhen Monday approached, my family stayed tuned to the news. Watching every minute for updates on the Hurricane. When we thought it was all over, we found about the levees breaking and all the stranded people left in the city to be rescued. Even in the Superdome, people where left with limited water and food. All around the city there was looting stores in order to survive. Many questions about when is help coming and where is the president when you need him were rised in this time of tragedy. All we could do is watch the city going down into pieces.\r\nI remember nearly 1,900 people all together dying from Hurricane Katrina. Nothing happened to my family\'s house, but it just broke my heart to witness such tragedy. Every family who has lost someone or something has been in my prayers.\r\nI love each part of my city. From the cracked sidewalks to the termites. But most of all it\'s the people that I love. You find the friendlist people in New Orleans! We may not be the richest in wealth, but certainly in pride.\r\nIt has been 5 years since Katrina and I can definitely say we are rebuilding slowly, but surely. The Saints winning the Superbowl has put the pieces back together to making this city once again the best city in the world. Let the city of New Orleans continue to change lives because it certainly has changed mine for the best.\r\n
