When Katrina hit New Orleans I was a sophomore at Immaculata High School on the Westbank. When my family had heard a strong storm was coming we decided to pack and leave. It took us more than 12 hours to get to Houston along with my dog. My dad left us after two weeks in a hotel to go to Baton Rouge to go back to work for Entergy. Before he left we rented a house in Sugarland, Texas. My family decided to leave for Baton Rouge when Rita was headed toward the Texas coast. My grandparents went back home to Westwego while my mom, brother, sister and I stayed in Baton Rouge with my dad. After a few days, we went back to Houston to get our newly bought trailer and bring my dog home from where we had boarded her. There were shingles missing from my roof and two trees on the back fence. One of the trees crushed the back right corner of my dad\'s shed. My grandma who lived in Mereaux lost her whole house. I was able to save a few of my old toys and some of my family photos. None of my mom\'s childhood photos survived. This is one experience I will never forget.
