I had just started my junior year at high school. It had only been a week when I first heard about the storm. My family and I weren\'t really planning on evacuating for Katrina because we didn\'t think it would be coming directly at Louisiana. So when the news showed that it was, our only option was to go to Meadowcrest Hospital, where my mom worked, to ride out the storm like we did for Hurricane George back a long time ago. Thinking it wouldn\'t be that bad, I only packed for about three days. So my dad, two brothers and I ended up having to stay in one of the waiting rooms, along with about 20 other people because all of the hospital rooms were occupied. We stayed at Meadowcrest for 2 or 3 days, then decided to come back home, which fortunately was mostly undamaged. By this time the hospital was running out of food, the electricity was down, and the restrooms weren\'t working. It wasn\'t much better at home, either. We stayed for one night, then decided to go to Baton Rouge where my oldest brother had his small apartment while he was at LSU. We all had to sleep on the floor. I think we stayed there for the whole month of September. There wasn\'t much to do, so I slept most of the time. When we finally did come back home, we were relieved to find it only had slight roof damage. I don\'t remember too much else, but I do remember the MRE\'s. They were wonderful.
