Before and during Katrina I did not live in New Orleans. I lived in Houma, Louisiana. Most of my family lived in Metairie during Katrina. We all left Louisiana together and we went to Texas. We packed up what we could and had all the family dogs with us. I was younger so leaving home for a hurricane was more like a vacation for my cousins and I. After Katrina passed my step-father, uncle and grandfather left Texas to check out the houses. My grandparents did not get much damage and my uncle only had minor flooding. At my house in Houma the most that happened was down trees. I'm thankful that my family and I did not have extreme amounts of damage to our houses.
