cast of characters:\r\nme=Bridey\r\nIan=my boyfriend\r\nIan\'s mom=Ian\'s mom, Susan.\r\nhere\'s the story:\r\n.Thursday: Ian and his mom got to New Orleans the 25th.\r\n.Friday: got the house\'s central air conditioning fixed the 26th.\r\n.Saturday: got up at 11am saturday and heard the announcements on the radio (by random chance, Susan was surfing the radio in the kitchen).\r\n.Went to my school (UNO) in my car and grabbed what little shit I could, passing lines into the streets at gas stations.\r\n.Locked my car into the fenced in (8 foot high stockade, luckily) yard at Ian\'s parents house outside the french quarter, car may or may not still be there or in tact.\r\n.Got into the truck with Ian and his mom and left the city.\r\n.Former 20min drive to pass the airport took 2 and 1/2 hours in stop and go panicked traffic.\r\n.Drove across the grass median to join \"contraflow\" traffic on former east bound lanes heading west.\r\n.Went the 8+hrs in thunder and lightning, torrential downpours to Houston, Texas.\r\n.Ian\'s dad reserved us the very last hotel room in East Houston, one bedroom with one kingsize bed for the three of us.\r\n.Sunday: sat around and semiexplored the city, realized it was Little Mexico.\r\n.Monday: early morning, woken up by Ian\'s grandfather calling to tell us the storm veered off and didn\'t demolish the city entirely.\r\n.Later monday: watched the city still look quite fucked up for having \"dodged a bullet.\" same story over and over again about a woman whose finger was slammed shut and amputated by a door in a hotel due to a pressure change in the CBD.\r\n.Even later monday: to release tension, Ian and I were wrestling and I pulled him backward toward me, he fell and the back of his head hit my nose, making a very loud cracking sound and causing much bleeding. no broken skin but baaaaaad pain. eyes stopped watering so it seemed to only be a bad whack, [on later inspection Ian\'s dad (an ear-nose-and-throat surgeon/MD) thinks I cracked the middle bone (the part that sunglasses dont touch).]\r\n.Tuesday: decided that the city was getting worse and worse (flooding, broken levees, looting, etc) started the trek back to New Hampshire (his and my parents\' home).\r\n.Loonnnnnnnnnnng day driving through Texas and stopping in Arkansas, then stopping for the night in Memphis.\r\n.Hotel room much better than Texas, we crash, check up on friends with the weak wifi connection and get up and drive more.\r\n.More driving\r\n.More driving.\r\n.Attain NH at 6:30 am on Friday, watching the sun come up over route 495 in Massachusetts.\r\n.Friday: Sleep til 3pm.
