Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

(Aftermath Of Hurricane Katrina)\r\n\r\nThe Evening News brought this tragedy home\r\nAll the way up from Louisiana\'s Superdome\r\n\r\nThe countless people trapped and alone\r\nWith nothing to eat, not even a bone\r\n\r\nWith more on the highway walking for miles\r\nTheir homes washed away along with their smiles\r\n\r\nHow could the authorities allow this to happen\r\nThe images of which cause my heart to sadden\r\n\r\nAnd though I was not directly affected\r\nThe Evening News put it in perspective\r\n\r\nWith cries for help and pleas for assistance\r\nTheir voices were heard in the far off distance\r\n\r\nMany people volunteered from around the globe\r\nTo aid in the relief and offer some hope\r\n\r\nTo those who survived, their lives now stripped bare\r\nOur thoughts and prayers let them know that we care\r\n\r\nThe Evening News called it a shame\r\nThat so many people felt need to place blame\r\n\r\nOn the Federal Government for taking their time\r\nTo some the slow response was seen as a crime\r\n\r\nWhich can\'t be forgiven unless we get tough\r\nThe rebuilding has begun but may not be enough\r\n\r\nTo ensure that authorities take into consideration\r\nThose most affected by this dreadful devastation\r\n\r\nThere\'s nothing we can do now except prepare for the future\r\nAnd stop blaming everyone for the wrath of Mother Nature\r\n
