Your Memory Lives In New Orleans

Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

Oh where are you now\r\nAll I have left of you are these memories\r\nYou couldn\'t find a way out of here\r\nA lost soul drowned in the rising waters of the tide\r\nA city swept away\r\nGod was supposed to conquer the mighty storm\r\nThat took your life that day\r\n\r\nThe heavens opened up with rain\r\nAshes to ashes, dust to dust\r\nYour memory remains\r\nMuddy water fills the streets\r\nNight falls, death shadows over humanity\r\nI stand alone, in the midst of New Orleans\r\nHolding on to your memory\r\nFor all that remains within the fears and tears\r\n\r\nA ghost town comes to life\r\nSomewhere among the clouds above\r\nYou will reign in glory\r\nMy loss is surely heaven\'s gain\r\n\r\nYour spirit is still here\r\nIt will always be near\r\nSomewhere amongst the war zone\r\nOf a frightening site left seen\r\nSomeday in my memory\r\nYou will walk amongst rebuilt streets\r\nOf New Orleans\r\n
