I\'ve lived in my house on Hudson Street in Kenner, LA my whole life. It is a beige stucco and brick house with a white picket fence surrounding the patio! An oak tree sits tall in the middle of the yard while a garden wraps the front of the house. White chairs sit on the porch often occupied by family and friends. Although my house is small, it is always filled with people and laughter from every room. My mother, father, and I along with our three dogs make our house a home. I am the only child so I have my animals to occupy my time. There is a big hallway leading to the two bedrooms and bathrooms. We have an open floorplan that makes the living room, dining room, and kitchen look like one giant room. Our house was built in the 50\'s but is still standing strong. Hurricane Katrina came and went without damaging a single shingle. My family stayed during the storm as well as my boyfriends family. So we had ten people living in a two bedroom-two bathroom house for two weeks during that devastating time. We were very fortunate that our house was okay, especially since we live three houses down from a canal. We thought for sure our home was going to flood, but someone was looking over us that terrible night. Although we were out of electricity for two days, we did not care because we had each other, and knew we were all safe together. The faucet water on the other hand was turn off for ten days. Luckily we have a swimming pool that we were able to bathe in for the time being. I will never forget driving on the streets the morning after, seeing homes and cars destroyed from flood waters or fallen branches. It made me that much more thankful and grateful to know that we were so lucky. So our house on Hudson Street has definitely been through a lot over the past years but I thinks it plans to stay around a lot longer to give shelter to one happy family!
