Cajun Dome

My family, which includes 3 boys, now young men, and I found shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana. We found our way via a radio broadcast where a voice said that there was plenty of room available in the Cajun Dome. I immediately turned the car around and found road signs that lead me straight to shelter. I parked in the dark and took a shuttle to the stadium. The next morning, a Red Cross volunteer told me where to get personal items and more blankets. As I walked in search of the supplies, a female grabbed hold of my hand. She helped me find my way and we exchanged telephone numbers. During the telephone conversation, she invited my family to stay at her home. After we settled down, I later learned the she is a former New Orleans City Councilperson (District 1). We emailed each other throughout my rebuilding process. She celebrated Christmas 2005 in my Terrytown, Louisiana, home
